Carla Ortique, MD

Dr. Hillary BoswellDr Carla Ortique, a Midwest native, was born in Chicago, Illinois. A National Merit Scholar, she earned a BS in Bacteriology from University of Wisconsin-Madison in1982 and her MD from University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1986. Dr Ortique completed an internship and residency in Family Medicine at the University of Illinois. From 1989-1992, as a Board certified family physician, she was on staff at the Crusader Clinic, and served as a clinical instructor for the University of Illinois College of Medicine. A strong interest in providing comprehensive care for women, coupled with the personal experience of having a sister diagnosed with breast cancer, resulted in Dr Ortique undertaking a second residency program. She completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center, St Paul Minnesota in 1995, receiving special recognition from the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.

Dr Ortique has been in the active practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Texas since August 1995. She spent 3 years in Houston followed by 11 years in Austin prior to returning to Houston to join The Women’s Specialists. Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1997, Dr Ortique incorporates her family medicine training as well as training in complementary and alternative therapies to provide comprehensive care to female patients. Areas of special interest include spirituality and medicine, general obstetrics, minimally invasive surgical procedures including hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, preventative healthcare and patient safety, guidance for perimenopausal and menopausal patients.

A firm believer in being a “part of the solution” Dr Ortique has been active in organized medicine and community service for over 20 years. She has received numerous awards including National Medical Association Best Physician Region V and America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists 2007. Dr Ortique has served on numerous boards including the National Medical Association and The Austin Diagnostic Clinic. She currently serves on the Texas Medical Association Committee on Child and Adolescent Health and chairs its Subcommittee on Adolescent Reproductive Health. She continues to speak regarding women’s health issues and healthy lifestyles for community and church organizations.

As a leader in her field Dr Ortique was elected Chair, Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Austin Medical Center 2004-2005. Her interest and expertise in the area of patient safety and quality improvement resulted in appointment to the TMA Presidents Select Committee on Patient Safety and election to The TMF Health Quality Institute Board of Trustees 2006-2011.

Dr Ortique is blessed with her husband Judge Morris Overstreet to share family including 3 children and 3 grandchildren. She enjoys travel, horseback riding, reading, driving the golf cart and spending time with family and friends.
