Midwifery philosophy acknowledges pregnancy and birth as normal healthy events in a woman's life.  Midwives provide support and guidance in an atmosphere of trust. We encourage women to discover their strengths as they move through the important processes of pregnancy, birth, and early parenting.

The midwives of the Women’s Specialists of Houston, at Texas Children’s Hospital began our practice in 1994. We are committed to providing the highest level of health care honoring all women and their families.

The nurse midwives are certified by American Midwife Certification Board and fulfill state requirements as Advanced Practice Nurses. Each nurse midwife has many years of midwifery experience.

The midwives have a well established relationship of mutual respect with our physician colleagues. We work in collaboration and consultation with these physicians. We attend births at St Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and at The Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Families are seen in the office Monday through Friday for both pregnancy and gynecological care. A Nurse Midwife is on call for labor and delivery 24 hours, seven days a week.
