Wanda Thornton Mott, M.D. has practiced as a Board Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist for more than 20 years in the Texas Medical Center. Dr. Mott is a Phi Beta Kappa member and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Smith College, and received her medical degree and residency training at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. She is a proud Houstonian and a product of Houston schools.
She has advanced certification and experience in procedures such as Colposcopy, gynecology laser surgery, endometrial ablation, advanced endoscopy utilizing laparoscopy, and hysteroscopy for minimally invasive surgery. Moreover, Dr. Mott was the fifth gynecologist to be certified in MR guided focused ultrasound.
Of particular interest to her is the obstetrical care and management of high-risk pregnancy and obstetrical complications. These include incompetent cervix, pregnancy loses and premature labor; pregnancy complicated by medical illness, such as diabetes or hypertension.
Her special interests in gynecological care include adolescent gynecology, contraceptive therapy, menopause therapy, osteoporosis therapy, endometriosis diagnosis and treatment, management of fibroids, large pelvic masses, abnormal Pap smear evaluation and therapy. Dr. Mott and her staff are also able to provide nutrition counsel and weight management. As a world renowned, superiorly trained physician and female leader in her field, she is currently also performing minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, Novasure/ Theramachoice balloon, and MRgFUS, which is a noninvasive alternative to surgery.
Academic appointments in the Houston Medical Center include Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and Clinical Instructor for the University of Texas Medical School. In addition, she lectures throughout the nation on Nutrition, Women’s Health, Teen Sexuality, Teen Pregnancy and Hormone Replacement Therapy.
In recognition of her personal and professional accomplishments, Dr. Mott has been the recipient of numerous awards, appointments and listings including the 2005 “African American Business Achievement Pinnacle Award” and the 2004 “Texas Women’s Empowerment Award”. Furthermore, she has received recognition by the Consumer Research Council of America as “America’s Top Obstetrician and Gynecologist for 2004-2005”, the “Circle of friends Award” for WAM, an appointment to “President Clinton’s Council on AIDS and STD Prevention”, the ”Edith Award” for mentoring programs with young girls, “Woman on The Move Award” from the Texas Executive Women and the Houston Chronicle, a listing in “Who’s Who in Women Business Owners”, the “Outstanding Physician and Trailblazer Award” by Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter of AKA, Incorporated, a nomination to the “Texas Hall of Fame” by Governor Ann Richards, and recently recognized as “2006, 2007 Top Doc’s for Women” in the Texas Monthly magazine.
Dr. Mott takes great pride in providing total women’s health care with emphasis on patient. As a complement to her career, she is also active in her community and personal life. She is an active NAACP board life member, Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter, Missouri City Chapter of The Links, Inc. – International Trends Committee Chair, and Non-Government Organization (NGO) representative to the United Nations, for the Links, Inc., Safe motherhood initiative through the UN and the World Health Organization (WHO); Volunteer and Supporter of Patrice House – a home for displaced children from 0 to 12 years; Ensemble Theatre Board Member, Professional Advisory Volunteer at Houston Area Women’s Center, Volunteer for Interfaith Ministries, Volunteer for Windsor Village AIDS Ministry, and Co-Founder of the Mary Susan Moore Medical Society – African-American women physicians of Texas.
